Python Physical Computing for Teens 10+

Python Physical Computing for Teens will run once a week for 12 weeks at MCC.

In this course teens will be introduced to the world of CircuitPython! CircuitPython is an easy and friendly language to program hardware devices. Participants in the course will learn how to light up the LEDs on the Circuit Playground Express,   learn how to program its buttons to light on and off and  play a tune. Moreover, youth will learn the concept of events in Python programming. Teens will also use CircuitPython to design and build their projects that reflects their passions and interests.

As part of this course, teens will have an exceptional opportunity to participate in the Astro Pi Challenge! By joining this international challenge, teens will  learn how to use Python to write  a code that will be run in space on the International Space Station (ISS)! To facilitate teens contacts with ISS, teens will introduced to the online Sense HAT emulator to create their programs.  that will be submitted to  the astronauts on the International Space Station.  By completing this challenge, teen participants will  receive a special certificate showing where exactly the ISS was when the teen program ran! Teens will learn the following physical computing skills::

  • Design and build games.
  • Access individual NeoPixels.
  • Program the LED to make Rainbow colors, and code to play tune
  • Use light and temperature sensors
  • Use shake event, touch event and on press button even

Youth will learn the following coding skills:

  • Variables, loops and forever loop
  • Print statements & Serial monitor
  • Conditions with if, elif and else
  • Functions and methods
